Service Fusion GPS Units provide real‑time vehicle data directly within the system through the Fleet Map and Fleet Dashboard. GPS units installed in vehicles transmit location and activity data at regular intervals, allowing businesses to monitor fleet movement and basic driving behavior. This functionality is designed to give visibility into vehicle location and usage, helping support dispatching and operational awareness.
Best Suited for:
- Dispatchers monitoring technician locations
- Operations managers overseeing fleet activity
- Back Office administrators managing GPS devices
- Businesses using vehicle tracking for scheduling visibility
How GPS Tracking Works:
- GPS units are installed in vehicles using a plug‑and‑play device
- Once installed and assigned in Service Fusion:
- Data is transmitted automatically
- Updates occur every 90 seconds
- Information is displayed in:
- Fleet Map
- Fleet Dashboard
Billing Information:
- GPS tracking follows the same billing cycle as your subscription
- Quarterly, semi‑annual, or annual plans are billed in advance
- Non‑usage does not pause billing without removal of the unit
- No refunds are provided for early removal
- A 15‑day notice is required prior to subscription renewal
- Upon removal, the GPS unit will get permanently deactivated and cannot be reactivated
Connectivity:
- United States: Devices connect via Verizon towers
- Canada: Devices connect via AT&T towers
Reportable Metrics:
The system provides the following vehicle activity insights:
- Idle Time: Vehicle is on but has not moved for 2 minutes
- Excessive Idling: Vehicle is on but has not moved for 15 minutes
- Speeding: Triggered when exceeding a defined speed threshold (default: 70 mph)
- Unauthorized Use: Vehicle movement outside configured business hours
- GPS Lock Lost: Temporary loss of connection to satellite or cellular network
Important Considerations:
- Speed thresholds are global settings and do not adjust based on local speed limits
- Business hours must be configured for accurate unauthorized use tracking
- GPS signal interruptions may occur but typically reconnect automatically
Limitations:
Service Fusion GPS tracking does not support the following:
- Route optimization
- Geo‑fencing
- Vehicle maintenance tracking
- Hard‑wired device installations
- Notifications for:
- Speeding
- Harsh braking
- Idling behavior
- Rapid acceleration
- Harsh turns
- Unauthorized use alerts
Additionally:
- Devices from third‑party GPS providers are not supported
Compliance Notes:
- USDOT compliance pertains to the vehicle itself, not the GPS unit
